Dr. Bibek Banerjee to Speak at National Education Summit India 2011

The National Education Summit India 2011, organized by the Dainik Bhaskar Group, is going to be held at New Delhi on 28th May this year. Along with the chief guest, Kapil Sibal, Union Minister, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India, learned visionaries like Dr. Bibek Banerjee, honorable director of IMT Ghaziabad, are going to contribute to the in-depth discussion on bridging the gaps between desired and delivered quality of education at B-schools in India. Among the other noteworthy speakers will be Dr. Kuriakose Mamkoottam, Head and Dean, FMS Delhi, Dr. Devi Singh, Director, IIM Lucknow and few other respected figures from various reputed management institutes of India.

National Education Summit 2011 aims to focus around the quality gaps that several tier-2 and tier-3 schools are struggling to bridge. Standard and quality of education have been identified as the primary area of challenges that most of the B-schools face on an ongoing basis. At the platform of National Education Summit 2011, the key speakers will share their thoughts about all the aspects of education being delivered at these B-schools and the challenges thereof. In addition to the challenges faced by the B-schools, the discussion is also intended to address the issues with the higher education in India at large. Apparently, in the recent couple of decades professional institutes have mushroomed up enticing the youth with their own promises of high quality education they’ve been consistently failing to meet.

One of the eminent visionaries and key speakers at the summit, Dr. Bibek Banerjee, the director, IMT Ghaziabad is going to map his proven expertise in the field of education and industrial consulting with the main discussion of the summit. His experience in successfully designing and delivering several corporate learning programs for major organizations of India and abroad along with his profound vision for delivering the quality education to the Indian youth will be one of the pivot points of the National Education Summit 2011. Indeed, a contribution from the speakers of his repute will be an important driving factor to lead the summit to a success.

Commenting on the need for having all the prominent education-related authorities on the common platform, Shri Kapil Sibal, who will also be the guest of honor at the National Education Summit 2011, agrees, “Indian Education Sector has entered an accelerated growth phase especially with Business Schools. With need for more & more Business Schools the area of concern remains Bridging the Quality gap within this arena.” Wishing a successful participation to all the delegates, sponsors, speakers and participants, he says, “I am sure National Education Summit 2011 will provide a good platform for various stake holders to meet, interact and formulate future growth strategy in this area. I wish all the sponsors, delegates, speakers, media a successful participation in this important conference.”

It goes without saying that a concrete vision and profound experience in the field of education are the pre-requisites for a revolutionary change in the way education is being imparted. This is why visionaries like Dr. Bibek Banerjee, who have significantly contributed to the way education is being delivered at the premier business schools today, are on their mark to make a difference with their opinions and expert advices. The issues and challenges faced by the B-schools and professional educational institutes in India will be addressed by experts at the platform of National Education Summit, 2011.

CAT— Not the Only Sufficient Tool for Assessing Competence

For a professional educational institute that is acclaimed as one of the premier business schools in the country and abroad, it’s a constant challenge to always live up to the industry’s demands, experts’ judgments, and students’ aspirations. As one of the measures that ensure a consistent delivery of quality, input talent must be duly assessed and screened for their qualification. This is why the top-most business schools, such as Institute of Management Technology (IMT), rely on the results of the reputed CAT examination. Although the CAT examination is known to be a sufficiently challenging test of skills that does an excellent job in assessment of candidates for admission into IMT, like most of the other exams it apparently has its own limitations.

According to Dr. Bibek Banerjee, the director at IMT Ghaziabad, there has been a continual change in the output of the CAT examination. This change subtly indicates the imperfection of CAT as the only reliable way of assessing the aspirants and filtering out the most competent ones. For instance, as in case of any other examination, CAT’s results are also in figures which do not suffice to tell the intellectual capabilities of an individual. This gets even more difficult when the number of assessed candidates exceeds a whopping figure of two lakhs each year. As a result, several candidates who deserve an admission into a good business school do not get admission while few others who were relatively less competent get through the examination.

This is why the virtual interviews technology was introduced at IMT Ghaziabad in form of the VMock system. This system was centered on allowing students to choose the questions they could answer the best and helping faculty to access them in a better way. Although, being a new system, it suffered from certain technical snags as Dr. Bibek Banerjee said, “In the end, because of the snags we also had to personally interview them, making the VI a pre-screening process. We are observing strong correlation between performance the VI and the personal interviews, strengthening our belief that we should spend the intervening year fixing the mistakes in the system so that at this time next year, we can run it in a smoother fashion.”

Undoubtedly, having the highly competent students, means that their caliber can be modulated by quality education to help them achieve the success they want in their career. That is why selection of quality input that is fit for a rigorous process of training and development is crucial for maintaining the glory and reputation of a top-class business school too.
